Old Town Brunswick Preservation Association

Old Town Brunswick Preservation Association is a private, non-profit corporation founded in 1974 for the following purpose:

The purpose of the corporation is to protect and enhance the peculiar historical character and charm in and around the Old Town area of Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia, by promoting, encouraging and participating in the preservation of sites, squares, parks, trees, streets, residences and buildings of historical, architectural or esthetic significance; and to diffuse and increase such knowledge and appreciation of the value of such preservation.

The "Association" (or "Old Town") is governed by a board of directors operating under carefully crafted by-laws that helps maintain our non-profit status. With a membership of 150+, Old Town has quarterly membership meetings and several social events each year, including a Halloween Party, Christmas Party and a springtime Picnic in the Park.

In addition to quarterly membership meetings, the primary means of communication with the membership is a newsletter that is published about six times a year.

Operating funds are raised through membership dues and a popular annual Christmas Tour of Homes ranging from modest Folk Victorian to elegant Colonial Revival mansions. Funds are used to support a variety of historic preservation endeavors including The Lissner House at 1327 Union Street which serves as Old Town's historic headquarters.

Old Town takes on special projects with committees that concentrate on important preservation issues, such as:

Demolition by Neglect
Zoning
Sidewalk Improvements
Parks and Squares
Historic Lissner House

As young families continue to move into the Historic District and buy and restore homes that are still very reasonably priced, the average age of the typical "Old Towner" is becoming considerably younger. There has been an amazing number of births in the Historic District in the last four years.
